We will start with cotton blankets. Cotton has been around for thousands of years and is a major player in all bedding. Using cotton alone for a blanket really didn't work well because it will not stand up to frequent washings. When synthetics were discovered it was decided to blend them with the cotton to add strength and durability for a better blanket. Fibers like polyester and acrylic will improve a cotton blanket, especially if you are looking for a blanket that will not wrinkle very much and can be washed quite often. But if you have allergies or sensitive skin a 100% cotton blanket would be better for you. For a heavier cotton blanket you should look for a woven cotton blanket in a herringbone mesh pattern or a basket weave pattern to keep you warm and will still be breathable and soft.

Digital photos do offer the best printed results but they are just one type of design that can be used on a custom blanket. Download pictures from the Internet or any other source, ensuring as far as possible that they are a high resolution, large dimension picture. Alternatively, scan paper print pictures, newspaper clippings, or even album and book covers in order to get the exact look that you want from the custom blanket.

Cashmere blankets are derived from the wool of domesticated cashmere goats. The wool is especially soft and is a light weight downy fabric. Cashmere blankets will keep you very warm but require special care. It is recommended that you have them professionally cleaned. This blanket is very luxurious and can be worth the time and care you put into it, and is on the high side as far as cost.

The first and foremost thing to look for in a baby blanket is the material using which the blanket is made. Different materials have different properties that make them suitable for different seasons. So while you're going to purchase a blanket for your little one, keep the current season in mind.

Down blankets or down comforters are made with layers of fine feathers from ducks and geese. Down has an excellent thermal quality and is light-weight. The density of down will determine the amount of warmth. Some down comforters claim that they are washable, but the feathers can clump together when exposed to moisture and are susceptible to mildew. The feathers can also retain odors. It is highly recommended that you have the comforter professionally cleaned.

A fleece blanket is environmentally friendly and is blended with polyester. The polyester used for this blend is made from PET "polyethylene terephthalate". PET is a resin that is recycled from soda bottles and used to make synthetic fibers. The fleece blanket is very soft and will keep you warm. Fleece also works just like wool when it comes to wicking away moisture from your body.
