Due to an overwhelming response from students at the AGEP conference on October 1, 2005,
the AGEP Advocate Program has been founded at the University of Michigan.
What is an AGEP Advocate? An AGEP Advocate is a faculty member who will:
- be aware of the AGEP programs and activities, and help disseminate this information
to students in his or her program/department;
- act as a resource for students seeking information about AGEP and the University
at large as well;
- act as a mentor to AGEP students;
- provide feedback to the MAA Program Director about students' interests and needs.
Funds are provided to the to the AGEP Advocate for faculty interaction with students such
as having lunch with AGEP students and other ways the Advocate sees fit.
A kick-off meeting for the program will be held to discuss potential roles the advocates
may play and to answer any questions they may have. Advocates will also attend a MAA-sponsored
mentoring workshop featuring Dr. Howard Adams to be held either May 9th or 10th.
